About MUN

Model United Nations (MUN) is an educational simulation where students role-play as delegates to the United Nations and simulate UN committees. It develops skills in diplomacy, negotiation, critical thinking, and public speaking.

WHY MUN?

When unprecedented global issues wreak havoc, world peace is left unguarded. The ultimatum that defeats conflict and imbalance caused by global divergence happens to be a cohesive approach towards ineffective systems and practices. In bridging the polar worlds of Cohesion and Divergence, open-minded global citizens play a crucial role in crafting and delivering sustainable solutions.

Modeling the United Nations’ efforts at global diplomacy and problem-solving, MUNs offer young leaders the opportunity to evolve as informed change-makers. This simulation offers the chance to delve into invigorating global issues and debate on policies while practicing diplomacy, leadership, problem-solving, and creativity. Beyond unleashing the inner diplomat, MUNs are an exciting way to network with equally passionate people, and make new friends, while evolving as an individual. Every MUN is a milestone in the journey of advocating for a better world, with miles of learning to cherish and take away.

MEET THE THEME: AGENTS OF CHANGE — DIPLOMACY FOR A RESILIENT AND JUST FUTURE

“In the face of adversity, it is dialogue, not dominance, that shapes the destiny of nations.”
~ Anonymous

Human progress is never a solitary endeavor. It is the result of countless interactions—negotiations, compromises, and shared visions—that shape the trajectory of societies. In a world increasingly marked by polarization, climate crises, inequality, and conflict, the call for diplomacy has never been louder, nor more urgent. Diplomacy, often seen as a tool of statecraft, is far more than formal negotiations between nations. It is a mindset of bridge-building, listening, and solution-seeking that extends across borders, sectors, and communities. Whether practiced in global summits or grassroots movements, diplomacy empowers individuals and institutions alike to be agents of change—not by force, but by fostering mutual understanding, respect, and cooperation. Yet, diplomacy in the 21st century must evolve. It must rise to meet not just immediate geopolitical concerns but also the long-term needs of a resilient and just future—a future where the vulnerabilities of today are not repeated tomorrow. Resilience demands foresight, flexibility, and unity in the face of global threats; justice calls for equity, inclusion, and reparative action. “Agents of Change: Diplomacy for a Resilient and Just Future” invites us to explore how dialogue, empathy, and international collaboration can become tools not just of governance, but of transformation. It challenges individuals, leaders, and institutions to act with conscience, to mediate with clarity, and to lead with vision—so that the world we pass on is stronger, fairer, and more connected than the one we inherited.

Gugaa Manmari Nandhakumar

Secretary General

Hi there! I am Gugaa MN from The Indian Public School Erode, currently in A Levels. I am so excited to be a member of the MUN4Schools 2024 Organizing Committee. I began my MUN journey in Grade 8, when I walked into my very first committee session, terrified of what lays ahead, but I had never been more thankful. Since then, I have attended 8 conferences, and received awards in some of them too. MUN has changed the way I think, speak, and lead; it gave me a voice. Moreover, enhanced my love for diplomacy, strategy, and solving global issues. From an MUN perspective, I also love entrepreneurship, economics, and finance. I personally believe initiatives like MUN4Schools allow students, not only to speak, but to be heard.

“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.” — Arthur Ashe This quote inspired me three years ago, as I nervously prepared for my first MUN in UNESCO. Today, after nine conferences as both delegate and chair, I’m proud to step into the Secretariat. Model UN has been more than just debate for me—it’s been a journey of growth, confidence, and discovery. It’s taught me how to think critically, speak fearlessly, and navigate global issues with clarity and creativity. As a politico buff and passionate MUNer, I’m excited to contribute to a conference that inspires others the way MUN once inspired me.
